Applications of construction fibres
Fibres for indoor concrete floors
We offer a range of Wiking® Construction Fibres for enhancing the performance of indoor concrete floors.
Most concrete floors are exposed to external forces that may weaken the quality of the concrete. Concrete reinforcement is therefore vital for securing a strong and durable indoor concrete floor.
Crack control in concrete floors
In the hardening phase, climatic conditions (such as extreme temperatures or strong winds) may cause an excessive amount of bleeding water to evaporate from the concrete surface, leading to the formation of plastic shrinkage cracks.
With Wiking® Construction Fibres added to the concrete mix, the scope of plastic shrinkage in the concrete is reduced, as the fibres will cause the tensile strength to develop earlier in the hardening phase. Thereby, plastic shrinkage cracks are prevented. Likewise, Wiking® Construction Fibres will prevent the formation of plastic settlement cracks.
Increased strength of concrete floors
The strength and qualities of concrete floors may deteriorate due to impacts and bumps from heavy objects and loads (e.g. forklifts, trucks and lorries). Especially, edges between floor units and raised parts of precast concrete are in risk of deterioration.
With Wiking® Construction Fibres added to the concrete mix, the impact strength and wearing qualities of the concrete will increase. The improved impact strength can be accredited to the large amount of energy absorbed through the refraction, stretching and pulling of the fibres when the cement bonding agent has vanished.
Studies show that the inclusion of fibres can reduce the deterioration of concrete caused by wear and tear by up to 39%.
