Applications of construction fibres
Fibres for marine concrete
Concrete in marine environments is exposed to very tough conditions, which makes durability and structural reliability of marine concrete important parameters. We therefore offer a range of Wiking® Construction Fibres for the reinforcement of marine concrete.
Concrete structures in marine environments are at risk of rapid deterioration due to the harsh conditions that seawater create. Not only is marine concrete exposed to chemical attacks from the seawater; but the constant pounding of waves, carrying sand and pebbles with them, will also adversely affect the concrete. As a result, the concrete will split and steel bars and steel mesh will begin to corrode.
Construction fibres for increasing durability in marine environments
We have therefore developed a range of Wiking® Construction Fibres for improving the durability of marine concrete. When adding the fibres to the concrete mix, damages caused by wear are reduced with up to 40%, and impact resistance will increase by 400%.
Furthermore, Wiking® Construction Fibres will reduce the absorption of water in concrete, making the concrete more resistant to permeation. This is because, the fibres will form a three-dimensional matrix, which prevents the formation of plastic shrinkage cracks and createS a more durable concrete. This will also make the concrete less exposed to chloride-attacks, which is one of the most frequent causes of damage on marine concrete.
